Meet Me @ Mediapark

Introduction

“Meet Me @ Mediapark” is a VR game created to help people at the Hilversum Mediapark connect in a fun and interactive way.

The Mediapark is home to CEOs, ambassadors, and managers. But also to many interns, starters, and freelancers. In the fast-paced television industry, it can sometimes feel intimidating to approach someone in a higher position for advice, tips, or career insights that could help you grow.

That’s why “Meet Me @ Mediapark” was designed: to break the ice.
You don’t know who you’re playing with. You and your randomly matched partner explore and guess three locations together, earning a group score at the end. Afterwards, you get a chance to chat, connect, and maybe learn something new from each other.

Gameplay

Here’s how the game works:

In real life, we set up two VR headsets behind separate curtains so players could play anonymously with each other. Once both players put on their headsets, they find themselves in a 3D recreation of the “Joop van den Endeplein”. There, they each choose one of three characters and press Start.

When the game begins, the square dissolves and a virtual table with a map appears. A random location from around the Mediapark is shown, and both players can move a marker on the map to guess where it is.

If they have no clue, they can request a hint, at the cost of some points. Each hint is a playful reference to Dutch television culture, helping players narrow down their guesses in a fun way.

Once both players agree on a location, they each press the Submit button on the table. The game then reveals the correct spot and calculates a score based on how close their guess was.

After three rounds, the total team score is displayed, and both players return to the “Joop van den Endeplein”, where they’re invited to take off their headsets, meet each other in person, and hopefully start a real conversation.

Role and Contribution

I was deeply involved in both the game design and gameplay programming, from coming up with ideas during our brainstorming sessions all the way to finalizing the game trailer.

Together with our team’s network programmer, I helped design how the game would flow and play, defining the player experience from start to finish. Once we established the gameplay logic, the network programmer instructed me on what data needed to be sent through the Photon server to ensure both players saw the same things in real time.

I also developed several key gameplay features, including location transitions, art implementation, and the Hint System, which I designed and wrote myself. Each location had a few randomized hints ready to appear when players requested help, adding a playful and thematic layer to the experience.

In addition to the final stage of the project, a teammate and I created the game trailer. I was mainly responsible for filming and gathering all the footage, capturing the look and feel of the experience you can watch below.
